There are many things to check before introducing wood perches or toys into your birds enclosure. Make sure the wood is pesticide free, avoid wood with paint or unknown chemicals, keep wood untreated do not use wood with preservatives. Check for mold and be aware that wood collected outdoors can contain unwanted bugs.
Coloring on woods. Make sure that any wood used does not contain paint as stated above. Since birds love color, a great option is making sure items are dyed with non-toxic water-soluble food colorings. Note that these colorings will bleed off when being washed or exposed to any water/humidity. As long as they are dyed with non-toxic water-soluble food coloring, this is fine.
